The Hinman Straub law firm congratulates Principal Janet Silver on her selection as one of New York Law Journal’s 40 Rising Stars – the only attorney selected from a private upstate law firm.

Silver, who joined the firm in 2003, is a key member of the firm’s Education and Government Relations departments.

“Janet Silver possesses a combination of intellect, tenacity and drive that make her a passionate and successful advocate for her clients. In addition, she is a tireless contributor of her time and talent for others here at the firm and in the community.  We are pleased that the Law Journal has recognized her achievements,” said Sean Doolan, chairman of Hinman Straub’s Government Relations Department.

Silver started with the firm as a law clerk while completing her law degree. Since law school she has developed a practice that focuses on education, economic development, health and human services. Silver provides legal, regulatory and legislative services to a variety of higher education institutions, private and public elementary and secondary schools and nonprofits.

In 2015, Silver served as President of the Albany County Bar Association, of which she has been a member since 2003. Today she serves as president of the association’s Foundation and chair of its Pro Bono Committee.

In 2013, she won the President’s Award for her many contributions. Previously, Silver served the Bar Association in a variety of roles, including as an officer, member of the Court of Appeals Screening Committee, co-chair of the Young Lawyers Committee, chair of the Committee on Continuing Legal Education, as well as the Committee on Public Policy.

“I am very grateful to receive and accept this award on behalf of Hinman Straub and the Albany County Bar Association,” Silver said. “There are so many people who have helped me in my career, as is so often the case in our profession. I thank each of them for their support and confidence.”

Silver is a member of the New York State Bar Association and currently serves as a member to the House of Delegates. She is also a member of Government Law Center of Albany Law School.

A native of Ogdensburg, NY, Silver earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and her J.D. from Albany Law School. She was named to City and State’s class of Forty Under 40 in 2014.
