NYSBA to Host Program on Lobbying and the Legislative Process

On Thursday, October 12, 2017, the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) will be holding a three-part CLE program titled Lobbying and the Legislative Process.

This first part will address ethics law and the lobbying of public officials, with a focus on the New York State Lobbying Act and the role of the Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE).  Seth Agata, JCOPE Executive Director, and Joshua Oppenheimer of Greenberg Traurig LLP will be on that panel.

The second panel will cover the annual executive budget process and the respective roles of the Governor and the Legislature. That panel will include James McGuire, former Counsel to Governor Pataki, and James Yates, former Counsel to two Assembly Speakers who currently serves on JCOPE.  Both Maguire and Yates also served as judges.

The third part will examine bill drafting in New York; the speaker(s) have not yet been announced.
