Super PACs in New York

Today’s New York Times has an article about the “outside groups with murky ties” that are advertising in three of the key State Senate races that may determine whether the Republicans maintain control of that chamber in 2013.

The Senate Democrats are using the issue to raise money, questioning whether “shady, out-of-state groups with undisclosed supporters spending millions promoting falsehoods and deceitful half-truths” should determine the outcome of elections.

And just to make things even more interesting, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced that he is establishing his own Super PAC to “support moderates on both sides of the aisle – as well as independents – who have shown a willingness to work in a bi-partisan fashion.”

According to the story, Howard Wolfson will oversee the committee, which spend between $10 million and $15 million “in highly competitive Congressional, state and local races”  through Nov. 6th.  The announcement does not indicate whether any of those races will be in New York.
