State Board of Elections Adopts Independent Expenditure Regulations

In today’s New York State Register, the State Board of Elections (SBOE) has provided notice that it has adopted the regulations requiring the disclosure of independent expenditures that it proposed this past February.

The adopted rule is unchanged from what was initially proposed.  Three good government groups wanted the Board to go further, regulating not only “express advocacy,” but issue advocacy as well.

SBOE was recently criticized for not having its IE rules in place in time for the November elections.
