Moreland Commission Update
It looks like things could get interesting in Albany. Gov. Cuomo’s Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption appears to be moving forward with subpoenas as part of its investigation.
After getting criticized by editorial boards over the weekend (read editorials from the NY Times and the Daily News), the Moreland Commission issued a statement yesterday in which the co-chairs said that “[t]he Commission voted today to aggressively move forward in compelling production of information into specific matters that the Commission is investigating.”
It’s not clear exactly what that means, but the NY Times reports that the Moreland Commission “will investigate the state [Democratic] party as part of an inquiry into how political parties use loosely regulated fund-raising accounts, known as housekeeping committees.” [This is a change from where the Commission was last week, according to an Oct. 8th report in the Daily News.] The Times also reports that the Commission “seek information from some employers of state legislators, including law firms.”

And just in case you were wondering…State Senator Ruben Diaz approves of this in his “What You Should Know” column.
