CPI Eases Restrictions on Laid Off Employees

The Commission on Public Integrity announced today that it is modifying positions taken in a 2006 advisory opinion issued by the former Ethics Commission relating to public employees and their ability to solicit a post-government employment opportunity.

Advisory Opinion 06-01 imposed a 30-day “recusal period” within which employees could not communicate with prosecptive employers where the employer has a matter pending before the agency.

The Commission has issued a new advisory opinion which concludes that the 30-day recusal period set forth in Advisory Opinion No. 06-01 does not apply to State officers or employees who have been targeted for layoffs,
