NY Times Reports (Again) That Hevesi Plea Is Imminent
The New York Times is again reporting that former State Comptroller Alan Hevesi is expected to admit to a class E felony of “rewarding official misconduct” this morning relating to abuse of the pension fund. The Times does not report whether Hevesi is expected to serve jail time as a result.
The Times reported a similar story last week.
Update: The former Comptroller has plead guilty, and the Attorney General has posted his press release on this matter. Hevesi has plead guilty to a single felony charge of receiving a reward for official misconduct, a class E felony punishable by up to 4 years in prison. It is unclear whether Hevesi will serve prison time, and according to the AG he is cooperating with their investigation.
The Attorney General also released a statement indicating that current Comptroller Tom DiNapoli “is not involved in any investigation or matter in this Office.” This is significant for Comptroller DiNapoli, as he is running for election to a full term.
