Ethics Reform Bill Delivered to Governor (Updated)
Early this afternoon, the Senate delivered the Public Integrity Reform Act of 2011 (S.5679, Skelos) to the Governor.
The Governor has 10 days (not counting Sundays) to act on the bill — August 26th. There is no word yet on when he intends to sign the bill.
Once the Governor signs the bill, the Commission on Public Integrity (CPI) loses its enforcement authority, and must turn over its records to the Inspector General. The new Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) begins operations 120 days after the bill is signed.
Read background on the bill in these earlier posts — (June 7 and June 13).
Update: The Governor has signed the bill. Read his press release here.
