Hospital Executive Convicted of Bribing Politicians (Updated)
The New York Times is reporting that David Rose, former chief executive of the Medisys Health Network, was convicted today of bribing State Senator Carl Kruger and Assemblyman William Boyland Jr.
In a non-jury trial before Federal District Judge Jed Rakoff, Rosen was found to have given money to the two elected officials through sham consulting contracts in exchange for support for his health care network.
This is not a good sign for Kruger and Boyland, both of whom remain in office. Expect to hear a lot about how the new ethics law will prevent bad behavior of this nature in the future.
See this post for some discussion of the new disclosure requirements that will apply to lawmakers who have clients who do business with the state.
Update: Read Judge Rosen’s opinion.
