Town Supervisor Arrested on State and Federal Corruption Charges
The supervisor of the Town of Halfmoon, an Albany suburb, was charged yesterday by state and federal prosecutors in two cases. She is charged with embezzling money from her campaign account and lobbying state officials in exchange for cash. She has plead not guilty to all of the charges.
The US Attorney for the Northern District lodged two charges, alleging that Wormuth received $7,500 in cash, which was characterized as “consultant fees,” in exchange for using her position as Town Supervisor to lobby for the professional mixed-martial arts (MMA) fights to be legalized in New York.
The state charges were filed by the state Attorney General’s Office, working with the state Comptroller’s Office through their Joint Task Force on Public Integrity. She is charged with stealing $6,250 in campaign contributions from her campaign fund.
