SBOE Enforcement Counsel to Take Office on Sept. 1
The Times Union reports that Risa Sugarman, Gov. Cuomo’s choice to serve as independent enforcement counsel at the State Board of Elections who was recently approved by the Senate and Assembly, will not assume that office until September 1.
According to a Cuomo Administration spokesperson:
“Certain basic logistical steps need to be taken to get any new operation off the ground. In this instance, the office is being set up, the infrastructure is being built and the investigators, auditors and attorneys are being interviewed and hired — all necessary steps needed to ensure that the Enforcement Counsel has the resources required to be effective on day one. It would be unrealistic to suggest that this process could be completed overnight.”
Until September 1, she will continue in her current position with the state Department of Taxation and Finance.
