Report: Seven Cases Referred by SBOE Enforcement Unit, Others Being Investigated
The Daily News reports that the state Board of Elections (SBOE) enforcement unit has referred seven cases to local district attorneys and to the state Attorney General for potential criminal prosecution. The Chief Enforcement Counsel also indicated that her office currently has eight open cases in which subpoenas have been issued.
The enforcement unit, which began its work last September, was created as part of the 2014 ethics reform package.
On a side note, I think it would be useful if the SBOE created a web page for information about the Independent Enforcement Unit, including its statutory authority, staffing and contacting information. Right now, this is the only information regarding the unit:
How do I file a complaint or find out information about enforcement?
