State Board of Elections Certifies Statewide Ballot Proposals
The State Board of Elections has certified the language of two proposed constitutional amendments as well as a bond act proposal, all of which will be on the November ballot. Read the abstracts of the three proposals here.
Proposal One would establish an independent redistricting commission to draw legislative and congressional district lines every ten years, subject to adoption of the commission’s plan by the Legislature and approval by the Governor.
Proposal Two would allow electronic distribution of a state legislative bill to satisfy the constitutional requirement that a bill be printed and on the desks of state legislators at least three days before the Legislature votes on it.
The third proposal that will appear on the November 2014 ballot is the Smart Schools Bond Act of 2014. If approved, the state would be authorized to borrow up to $2 billion for educational technology capital projects, including Interactive whiteboards, servers, computers and tablets, and high-speed broadband or wireless internet connectivity for schools and communities.
