Comptroller Op/Ed Calls for Public Financing of Political Campaigns
New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, a Democrat, has a guest editorial in today’s Times Union that urges the state Legislature to enact comprehensive campaign finance reform, including public funding of elections for all state offices.
In it, he explains his decision not to participate in the “deeply flawed pilot program” that was enacted into law in 2014, and argues that a voluntary public financing system will promote competition and reduce the influence of private donations.
