Report: SBOE Looking at Elections Filings of Nassau County GOP Political Clubs
Over the weekend, Newsday (behind a paywall) reported that the Enforcement Unit at the State Board of Elections (SBOE) has requested campaign finance documents from 11 Nassau County Republican political clubs.
This is yet another indication that the SBOE Enforcement Unit – nearly a full year after it came into existence – is taking steps to address campaign finance filing shortcomings.
And it is a good reminder that the proper reporting of campaign contributions and expenditures is a legal responsibility. Minor violations of the law are subject to civil penalties, while more serious violations are punishable as misdemeanors.
