Groups Meet on Reforming New York’s Campaign Finance Laws

The Times Union reports that an impressive number of labor and progressive groups (a partial list of the groups is here) are meeting in New York City today to come up with a plan for reforming the state’s campaign finance laws.

The groups seem to be preparing for raising the issue at a post-election special legislative session, and possibly tying it to a legislative pay raise.  While there has been widespread speculation that legislators will return to Albany for a post-election session to, among others things, give themselves a pay raise, there is some concern that such a session will not occur.

Also, the Daily News reported earlier this week that Gov. Cuomo met “quietly” at the Capitol with several groups on the issue last week. One meeting participant said that the Governor told the group that he expects to push the issue in 2013, rather than this fall.
