JCOPE Hears from Statewide Elected Officials on Proposed Advisory Opinion
In the Times Union, Chris Bragg reports that Gov. Cuomo, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Comptroller Tom DiNapoli have provided input to JCOPE on its proposed Advisory Opinion on fundraising by certain elected officials. (Read my prior post describing draft AO 2015-0X here.)
The article notes that only the Comptroller’s Office provided a written comment to JCOPE (read the letter from Nancy Groenwegen, Counsel to the Comptroller Comptroller’s Counsel to JCOPE here).
Ms. Groenwegen notes that the draft Advisory Opinion represents a “novel interpretation of Public Officers Law section 74,” and raises a number of questions and concerns regarding how it would be implemented. It is worth a read.
