Legislative Ethics Commission Seeking Associate Counsel
The Legislative Ethics Commission, which is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the provisions of Public Officers Law §§ 73, 73-a and 74 for members and employees of the Legislature and candidates for state legislative office, is looking to hire an Associate Counsel.
The responsibilities of the position include assisting the Executive Director/Counsel and Deputy Director/Counsel in providing guidance, assistance, and training relating to the state’s ethics laws for legislators and staff; conducting legal research and preparing memos on relevant areas of Public Officers Law; and reviewing and examining statutory annual financial disclosure filings.
All of my dealings with the Legislative Ethics Commission — both in my prior life as a legislative staffer, and on the outside working to ensure that my firm’s clients avoid any ethics problems — have been very positive. My sense is that this would be an excellent place to work.
