Moreland Co-Chair Resigns to Run for Congress
After announcing that she will be a candidate for the 4th Congressional District in Nassau County, Democrat Kathleen Rice has resigned her position as co-chair of Gov. Cuomo’s Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption.
In her resignation letter to the Governor, she wrote:
“…at this time, I believe it is appropriate for me to step down from the Commission.… I find it crucial to insulate and safeguard the Commission’s work from potential distractions posed by a high-profile political campaign involving one of its senior members. As someone deeply devoted to the Commission’s efforts to improve the ethics and accountability of our political system, I do not make this decision lightly.”
Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick and Milton Williams, Jr., remain as Moreland Commission co-chairs.
