Moreland Commission Co-Chair Provides an Update

Nassau County District Attorney and Co-Chair of the Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption Kathleen Rice told Capitol reporters today that the Commission has sent out subpoenas, but she did not describe what the subpoenas are seeking or say to whom they were sent.

She told reporters:

“I think it is really important for people to know that we are very actively engaged in our mission now.  It may not seem like that because we haven’t started the public hearings. But come September when all those public hearings begin, the public will understand what we have been doing for the past two months in terms of gathering information to make these hearings as meaningful as possible.”

The Commission holds its first public hearings in New York City on Tuesday, September 17 and in Buffalo on Wednesday, September 18.  Its preliminary report is due by December 1, 2013.
