NYC Council Approves Campaign Finance Disclosure Measure

City & State New York reports  that the New York City Council has approved a bill to exempt member organizations (such as labor unions) and corporations from being required to disclose their member-to-member communications with respect to candidates or issues that they support during an election year.

The NYC Campaign Finance Board opposes the legislation, arguing that it will deny voters “a complete picture of election-related spending.”

Mayor Bloomberg has not indicated whether he will sign the bill.  But since the City Council approved it through a 47-1 vote, it could override a veto by the Mayor.
