OFA to Join New York State ‘Fair Elections’ Effort
Politico reports that ‘Organizing for Action’ (the group formerly known as ‘Obama for America’) is getting involved in the effort to reform New York State’s campaign finance laws. (Fair Elections for New York’s press release is here.)
According to Citizen Action New York, OFA sent out this e-mail to its followers yesterday, urging them to participate in a conference call that is being held tonight:
“In New York elections, the voice of the public is being drowned out.
Contributions from special interests, lobbyists, and corporations are far too influential, disclosure is inadequate, and enforcement of the laws currently on the books is too lax.
That’s not how democracy should work. So right now, OFA supporters are joining the fight to reduce the influence of special interests in state elections, and put the power back into the hands of New Yorkers.
If you want to fight for fair elections in New York, you should join a planning call tomorrow, Wednesday, March 27th, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
You’ll be on with phone with Jon Carson, OFA’s executive director, David Donnelly, executive director of the Public Campaign Action Fund, and Attorney General of New York Eric Schneiderman to discuss the issue and the work already being done on the ground.”
If you are interested in participating, you can register for the call here.
Citizen Action is also organizing rallies and other local events throughout the state in support of ‘Fair Elections.’ Click through for more information on their upcoming events in New York City, Syracuse, Westchester and Troy.
