Signs of a Moreland Act Commission
The Daily Politics blog is reporting that Gov. Cuomo is preparing to follow through on his threat to investigate legislative corruption. According to the blog post:
“The 25-member bipartisan panel will have subpoena power and will be packed with law enforcement officials–including nearly a dozen district attorneys. Bronx DA Robert Johnson is among them, sources said….The panel will be co-chaired by Nassau County DA Kathleen Rice, Syracuse District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, and Milton Williams Jr., chair of the Fund For Modern Courts.”
In a radio interview earlier today, Senate Co-Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) said that a Moreland Commission should not be aimed solely at the Legislature, and warned against it undertaking a “witch hunt.” He also pointed out that the Senate has the ability to undertake a similar investigation, if it chose to do so.
