US Attorney Indicts Political Consultant for Fraud, Tax Evasion
Federal prosecutors announced the unsealing of a criminal complaint today, which alleges that political consultant Melvin Lowe defrauded the Senate Democratic Campaign Committee (DSCC) of $100,000, among other things.
According to the complaint, Lowe directed payment to a New Jersey-based company, ostensibly to pay for campaign literature, but no literature was ever delivered. The complaint says that Cornerstone returned $75,000 to Lowe, gave $20,000 to an unnamed political consultant and kept $5,000.
Lowe is also accused of failing to repay a $66,000 loan and failing to pay taxes on more than $2 million in consulting fees over six years.
It’s safe to say that this is not good news for the Senate Democrats at they look to regain control of the Senate in the 2014 elections.
