In Wake of Scandals, Governor Says Campaign Finance and Ethics Reform are Priorities

In a radio interview this morning on WCNY, Gov. Cuomo said he wants to capitalize on two scandals from last week to advance an elections and ethics reform agenda.  Without getting specific, the Governor said that plans to push for reforming election laws that allow candidates of one party to run on another party’s line; reducing campaign donation limits; and improving state corruption laws to enable local district attorneys to better prosecute public officials.  He also suggested that he is considering appointing a Moreland Act Commission to look at the Legislature.

The Governor said that he sees this “moment” as a means to push further legislation:

“I think this is an opportunity to come up with a more expanded agenda. Never waste a crisis they say.”
