Albany Ethics Update
The Daily News reports that the Senate Democratic Conference will announce a “comprehensive” legislative ethics package at noon in the Capitol. The nine bill package will include a full system of public campaign financing; restricting the use of campaign dollars for personal use; close the LLC loophole and cap donations to political party “housekeeping” committees.
The New York Times reports that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan has issued a grand jury subpoena seeking emails, text messages and other records from the members of the Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption, which was shut down in the wake of an agreement on an ethics reform package as part of the 2014-15 state budget.
Finally, Jeremey Creelan, a former special counsel to Gov. Cuomo who has returned to private practices, has a guest editorial in today’s Times Union, where he reminds critics of the Governor of the “significant reforms in government ethics that the governor has achieved,” and blames the Legislature for the failure to achieve even more reforms.
