Evaluating Albany’s Ethics Reform Bill

The debate over the ethics bill (which has not yet been delivered to the Governor for his signature), and its shortcomings, continues today.

Lawrence Norden, Counsel to the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, writes in today’s Times Union that the ethics bill represents “…the most comprehensive overhaul of New York’s public ethics laws in decades. While some have criticized the bill as being short of ideal, we believe it’s a tremendous step forward.”

Stephen Gillers, a legal ethics expert and law professor at NYU School of Law, says that the bill’s supporters “have been snookered.”
