JCOPE: No Sanctions for State Lawyer Who Accepted Ride on Private Plane

The Daily News reports that a lawyer from the state Attorney General’s office who accepted a free plane ride an opposing counsel has admitted he violated state travel rules, but he will not be sanctioned for the offense.

JCOPE found that David Ellenhorn, a senior trial counsel at the state Attorney General’s Office, accepted a charter plane ride from Omaha, Nebraska back to New York City, rather than taking the commercial flight that he held a ticket for. JCOPE also noted that Mr. Ellenhron did not, as required by state regulation, seek approval from the leadership of the Attorney General’s Office before accepting the plane ride.

According to the settlement, Mr. Ellenhorn acknowledged his actions, told JCOPE that he was unaware of the prior approval requirement, and has since taken JCOPE’s online training course.
