Wall Street Journal: “Albany Lobby Efforts Shift”

Jacob Gershman of the Wall Street Journal reports on the “growing crop of third-party coalitions” that has reshaped Albany’s lobbying landscape.

Using the recent Common Cause report on third part coalitions as a starting point, Gershman characterizes these efforts as reflecting “a more aggressive attempt by business groups to replicate lobbying tactics more commonly deployed by labor-backed interests.”

Clearly, the means of advocacy in the State Capitol are changing to incorporate tactics that used to be more commonly seen during election campaigns.  Business interests are on the upswing right now.  But are the trends Gershman identifies long-term changes, or do they reflect the public’s immediate mood?
