Common Cause Calls for Ethics Reform

In a Times Union opinion piece, Common Cause/NY Executive director Susan Lerner calls on legislative leaders to act on “strong ethics and campaign finance reform legislation.”

Lerner applauds the recent agreement between the Attorney General and Comptroller, and writes:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is engaging voters around the state in the call for a tough ethics overhaul. And this new initiative gives the governor even more leverage to demand the disclosure of outside income by legislators, the creation of an independent entity to conduct ethics oversight and enforcement, greater transparency regarding the relationships between legislators and lobbyists, and, most critically, genuine campaign finance reform with strong enforcement provisions.
