The New York Times Calls for Ethics Reform – Now
Saturday’s New York Times declares that “Albany Needs Ethics Reform — Now.”
The Times looks at the 10 legislative working days scheduled between now and June 20th, and expresses frustration with the Governor:
The first item on Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s post-inauguration to-do list was ethics reform. He’s been in office five months, and we’re still waiting for the bill.
The ed board wants:
- an end to self-policing on ethics through creation of an independent ethics commission;
- ending “pay to play” through stricter contribution limits, better contribution disclosure and tougher penalties for violations;
- full disclosure by lawmakers of outside earnings and clients; and
- campaign finance reform.
