NYC CFB Closes Case Against Bloomberg Campaign (Updated)

The New York City Campaign Finance Board has declined to take action against Mayor Bloomberg’s 2009 re-election campaign for making $1.2 million in undisclosed payments Independence Party just before the 2009 elections.  In a 3-1 vote, the Board said that while the Bloomberg campaign “contravened the spirit of disclosure,” it could find no violation of the law.

Most of the money was used to hire political operative John Haggerty Jr. to perform ballot security work.  Haggerty was later charged with stealing most of the money to finance a home purchase.  He was convicted of larceny and money laundering in October 2011.
