Calls for Campaign Finance Reform, Ethics Reform Continue
In a radio interview yesterday, Gov. Cuomo acknowledged that he is not expected his campaign finance law to be enacted into law before the Legislature adjourns for the year later this week. (Read news coverage in the New York Times and the Times Union.) The Governor again threaten to appoint a Moreland Commission to look into the role of money on the state’s political system if legislators fail to act. (The Daily News editorial board likes the idea.)
But advocates are not giving up.
Common Cause NY, NYPIRG and the League of Women Voters are still calling for campaign finance reform.
Citizens Union wants the Legislature to address campaign finance reform and public corruption.
Fair Elections New York and other groups from around the nation wrote to the Governor and Legislative leaders today, calling for action on a publicly finance campaign system.
21 advocates for the Women’s Equality Act and public financing of campaigns were arrested in the Capitol today.
Stay tuned. It’s going to be a long week…
