Report: Feds to Indict Monserrate

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has unsealed a two count indictment against former State Senator Hiram Monserrate.  The charges alleges that Monserrate, while a City Councilman, funneled hundreds of thousands in discretionary public funds to a Queens not-for-profit called “Latino Initiative for Better Resources & Empowerment” (LIBRE).  The organization allegedly used a portion of these funds to support Monserrate’s 2008 Senate campaign.  LIBRE is no longer operating.
