NY Times Calls on Governor to Push Campaign Finance Reform

Today’s New York Times includes an editorial calling on Gov. Cuomo to push the Legislature to enact campaign finance reform in New York.

Citing the Governor’s accomplishment in New York’s approval of same sex marriage, the editorial calls for New York to adopt a public financing mechanism modeled on New York City’s small-donor matching fund program, along with contribution limits and better enforcement.

The Times seems to be pushing for the Governor to try to advance this issue in 2013.  There has been widespread speculation that there will be a special legislative session before the end of 2012, but Hurricane Sandy and uncertainty in who will control the State Senate next year seem to have put a damper on a special session.
