Report: New York City Council Will Appoint a Lobbying Commission

City Hall News reports that the City Council plans to appoint a Lobbying Commission later today by confirming former Councilman (and current lobbyist) Herb Berman as Chair.

The five-member advisory body, which is tasked with making recommendations for improvements to the 2006 lobbying laws, was supposed to have been empaneled in early 2008 under the provisions of Local Law 15 of 2006.

The City’s lobbying laws are currently administered out of the Lobbying Bureau of the City Clerk’s Office.  Some lobbyists (including non-profits) are not happy with the job the Clerk’s Office has been doing in recent years.
