Hinman Straub Welcomes Four New Attorneys
Albany, New York (May 24), 2023 – Hinman Straub, a leading legal provider for individual, institutional and corporate clients with a comprehensive array of legal and government relations services, is pleased to announce the addition of four new attorneys to our existing team of more than 35 attorneys.
The firm welcomes Richard Chasney to the Health, Compliance, and Government Relations practice, James Miller to the Business, Corporate and Estates Law practice, Erik Piorkowski to the Litigation and Health practice, and welcomes back Michael Sardo, who has rejoined the Health Care and Corporate Transactions practice.
Michael Sardo joined Hinman Straub in 2018 and returned in March to the firm’s Health Law and Corporate Transactions practice after working in complex transaction for media and entertainment clients. His experience includes advising clients regarding health care provider compliance, commercial transactions, and competitive state applications. He is a 2018 graduate of Albany Law School. Prior to attending law school, Michael obtained a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Law from Binghamton University.
Prior to joining the firm, Richard Chasney spent three years as a Senior Attorney at the NYS Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) where he represented NYS at administrative hearings on an extensive range of complex Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse cases. He also advised OMIG executives on legal, regulatory, and policy challenges, including Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) II initiatives. Mr. Chasney also spent seven years at the Office of the NYS Comptroller in the Professional Standards and Data Management units of the Division of Local Government and School Accountability, where he was responsible for ensuring NYS auditors adhered to Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards, and local government and school district financial reports met Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
James Miller joined Hinman Straub following his graduation from Albany Law School. Prior to joining the firm, James attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a minor in Communications. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he attended Albany Law School where he graduated cum laude. While attending Albany Law School, James completed numerous legal internships in New York State, including a Trusts and Estates Law Section Fellowship at The New York Bar Foundation.
Erik Piorkowski joined Hinman Straub as a Law Clerk during his final semester at Albany Law School. Prior to joining the firm, Erik attended SUNY Plattsburgh where he received his bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he attended Albany Law School where he graduated magna cum laude. While attending Albany Law School, Erik served as a Teaching Assistant for legal research and writing courses and worked as a Law Clerk at a general practice firm.
